Lake Country

First frost on the lake shore

The week the reeds turned silver and the lake began, very slowly, to close.

Frosted reeds at the edge of a lake at pink sunrise

The first frost came overnight. By morning the reeds were silver and a thin skin of ice had formed in the shallow bays.

It is a short window — a week, perhaps two — before the lake changes completely. Walk the shore path early, before the sun reaches the water.
